-Analysis of Notable Works- Writing/Directing: This is one of the most well written films in the history of cinema. The narrative flows beautifully. The presence of the villain is felt all throughout the film even though he is only seen towards the end of the film. David Fincher completely commands the attention and nerves of the audience with this incredibly dark and twisted mystery/thriller. One can"t help but hold their breath through most of the film. *Editing/Cinematography: The selection of shots are absolutely perfect. The information given to us on screen is handled with such care and is timed perfectly. The editing is completely invisible in this film, as it should be. Cinematographer Darius Khondji brings forth a sinister and dark tone to the film. There seem to be a lack of life in the film, as if the villain has taken all of the joy out of the world, even the color. *Dialogue/Acting: Once again, this film is incredibly well written. The dialogue is gripping all throughout. The attention of the audience is held all throughout the film. Every line of dialogue has a purpose. The performances of Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are without blemish. They have an incredible chemistry. Gwyneth Paltrow brings a lovely quality to the film, as if to calm us after we become overwhelmed with the darkness. Kevin Spacey delivers one of the greatest performances of his life. He commands complete attention whenever he is on screen. *Music/Sound: The soundtrack is undeniably haunting. Every measure of music puts the viewer on edge. There is no room to take a deep calming breath. Tension is high all throughout the film. The sound design is completely immersive. The viewer can"t help but feel that they are on this journey with David Mills and Detective Somerset. *Production Design/Special Effects: The set design and locations are perfect for the aesthetic of these gritty thriller/drama. The final scene is one that cannot be forgotten. The special effects are strong throughout most of the film, but occasionally become a bit weak.
*Conclusion: Seven" is a must-see that cannot be ignored. It is completely gripping from start to finish.
